The Beetle Dune Concept of the Volkswagen will be a two-door hybrid coupe for four passengers. The fuel efficiency of the vehicle will be one of the attracting points; the vehicle will be efficient enough to deliver 40 mpg for the city while, on the highway, it delivers 45 mpg. The vehicle will be powered by the turbocharged engine and electric motor.
The automaker Volkswagen is working on its one old model to make it new. The work on this vehicle is at a peak, and it is expected that it will hit the market in early 2016. The main attraction of this vehicle is its being a hybrid car. Actually, this vehicle is a version of the ‘Dune’ to which the automaker has called ‘Beetle Hybrid Concept’ because this version has been equipped with a power-mill of the current Jetta hybrid.
This hybrid version is being developed on the basis of the vehicle which was powered by the 2.0 liter four cylinder turbocharged engine; there was no incorporation of an electric motor. Contrary to it, this new version will be powered by the EA211 1.4 liter turbocharged TSI four-cylinder engine, as well as this engine, will also be coupled with 27 hp electric motors associated 1.1 KWh lithium-ion battery. The 1.4-liter engine of the vehicle is capable to deliver 150 hp of power along with 184 lb-ft of force. The combined output by which the vehicle will run is 170 horsepower which will be paired with the 184 lb-ft of the torque. For transmission, this version’s power-mill will be mated with the 7 seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox which will also be featured with a manual shifting mode.
The automaker has also made some changes other than the power options. This new version of vehicle will be incorporated with the 100 inches wheelbase while the length of the vehicle will be 168.9 inches, width 73.4 inches, height 59.3 inches, while the curb weight of the vehicle will be 3300 lb. The changes which will obviously be visible are increased ground clearance as it will be grown 2 inches. The height of the vehicle will also be increased by 0.8 inches while the vehicle will also look somewhat fat as the width of the vehicle will be increased by 2.2 inches. However, the front and back of the vehicle will look similar to the old version as both the unique bumpers of the vehicle will remain with the vehicle. What another thing will be taken over is the orange and gold paint color along with the rear spoiler.
Some other changes will also be noticed; inside as well as outside of the vehicle, there would not be any ‘Dune’ branding, only with the hybrid vehicle. The vehicle will also not be incorporated with the cut-off switch. In regard to the performance, it will be powerful enough to reach 0 to 60 mph in just 7.8 seconds, while, for 0 to 100 mph, it will take 22 seconds. The fuel efficiency will be 40 & 45 mpg in the city and on the highway respectively.
