Usually auto manufacturers give details of their new release by a power point presentation but the same was not done by the AMG for its new GT S as they were sure that the vehicle will speak for itself and only a tiny briefing was given to the assembly of the scribes on way to witness the new 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S at Monterey, San Francisco.

The thing however should be noted is that the new car is going to more costly than the costliest AMG’s S65 coupe by two-third-price of both models not released to the press yet- but is going to be the brand’s calling card in the future. After racing through the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Tobias Moers in the GT S for two hours the CEO of the AMG gathered the journalists and commented its performance in off handed way and told that the 1:41 lap was pretty fine for the particular session. The timing of the 1:41 is usually done by a racing driver in full regalia in a Porsche Cayman S in the Laguna. Gist of this elaboration is that the AMG GT S did a Porsche in a spirited Sunday driving.

However the aspiration of taking out a chunk out of the Porsche by the speed of the GT S subdued noticeably. When you ride you don’t take note of the speed until you try to remove your feet from the pedal in a hurry as the crest marking at the straight approaches you fast. You feel the forces acting up on the car as it slows down to tackle the Andretti Hairpin. The result of the ride around the track is silent violence throughout with this GT S.   One drawback is the sightlines which are considerably tampered by the long hood and low windshield but the fast laps definitely relegate these lapses to back burners. The front grip and the sure footed quick turns make it possible.

The 4.0 L twin turbo M178 V-8 engine offers a grunt matched to the C63 Black series with a naturally aspirated clamor. While piracy is killing music the turbochargers are killing the engine sound. The company has let the engine as it is with its 503hp however the GT S weighing 3600 lbs never offers you the meaty whump that you expect from such power. Well, the GT S just accelerates and the prediction is that it will run the 0-60mp in 3.5 seconds. According to AMG with enough room it will continue the quest of building the speed till it reaches the 193 mph mark.

Let us forget the Mercedes steering for a moment and imagine a nice manual rack being boosted to the level where you have enough feel remaining and that is what we have here. It moves from left to right easily and reacts with alacrity to inputs from the driver. It almost makes you think of the McLaren 650S. While an F-Type R with a supercharged V8 could be termed as a hooligan doing this the GT S executes it with high amount of efficiency.
