Oldsmobile was a renowned name in the world of cars and one of the oldest of the car manufacturing in the US. It was headquartered at Lansing, Michigan, US and was founded in the year 1897 by Ransom E. Olds. Between 1987 and 2004 the company was involved in manufacturing mainstream and luxury vehicles and belongs to the Parent company General Motors the American automobile giant. During its 107 year tenure the company produced a stupendous 35.2 million and 14 million out of them at its Michigan unit. The company was phased out in 2004 and defunct since then.

Oldsmobile in Old Times

Started in 1897 by Olds the company reined as the top automobile manufacturing company for a few years till it ran into financial difficulties and General Motors bought it in the year 1908. Oldsmobile Curved Dash was the first car that was produced in an assembly line and subjected to mass production. A fire in the factory destroyed all prototypes in 1901 and the curved dash was the only one to survive. The company shifted to new premises and started production of the model and it achieved the highest point of the company in the year in 1910 limited with its 42 inch high wheels and limited white tires manufactured at the factory.
