In the 1970's, the brand develops its first model that was independently designed and manufactured – the subcompact Pony, using important components of Mitsubishi Lancer. The Pony range is released in 1976 as the country's first automobile model and also becomes part of the exports.

In 2012, Hyundai launched its new Santa Fe, Veloster Turbo and i40 Saloon. Korea's New Car Safety Evaluation Board awards its First Prize to the Santa Fe model. Sonata Hybrid gets to rank high in the US consumer satisfaction surveys, while the Geneva Motor Show sees the company's electric concept car as a world premiere. Additionally, Hyundai receives the award for being the most fuel efficient brand, also with the lowest CO2 emissions.
