Plymouth Prowler

INTRODUCTION:

The Plymouth Prowler was later called as the Chrysler Prowler. This car was retro-styled car which came in production lineup in the year 1997 and ended in the year 2002. This car was based on the concept car of 1993 which had the same name. This car was the first stand-alone division’s model. It used the roadster concept and meets the safety requirements. This car was equipped with an engine SOHC V6 having capacity 3.5 liter. This was a Chrysler engine which gave a power of 218Hp. This engine was so powerful that it raced past 60 sprints in just 7.2 seconds. Later in the year 1999 this value improved and it took just 5.9 seconds to reach the mark with an engine power of 253Hp. This car came only with an automatic transmission. The interior was beautifully finished.

WHAT’S NEW FOR 2014 PLYMOUTH PROWLER?

Due to the end of production lineup in the year 2002, there are no recent advances in this car.

HOW MUCH?

This car wasn’t really cheap during its period. The price of this car started from $39,000 and went to $44,225 in the year 2002. If added with other options and features, this price went real high.

FUEL ECONOMY:

This car was equipped with 3.5 liter V6 engine having a bore diameter of 96 mm and a stroke length of 81 mm and having a compression ratio of 9.9. The power developed was 253Hp and used a multi-point fuel injection system.

The EPA rating for fuel economy of this car was 17 miles per gallon in city and 23 miles per gallon on the highway.

STANDARD FEATURES AND OPTIONS:

There were only few Prowlers that were under the production, hence only one trim level was offered which was fully equipped. There were no factory options available.

The standard features which it offered were:

1-    A 3.5 liter high output V6 engine with 24 valves and SOHC block made of aluminum.

2-    It came with a multi-point fuel injection system.

3-    The engine developed a power of 253Hp at 6,400rpm.

4-    It used a power disc brake on all the four wheels.

5-    The steering system that it used was a power rack and pinion system.

6-    It came with an automatic transmission system at rear wheel with four speeds. This transmission system was electronically controlled.

7-    The front suspension used independently controlling arms having pushrods.

8-    Independent multi-link is used at the rear and is also having double wish bone which is modified and comes with stabilizer bars at the front and rear.

9-    Also the suspension system includes coil over shock at the front and rear of the vehicle.

10-This car has got a 17-in wheel at front and 20-in wheel at the rear made of aluminum.

11- For the safety feature it includes standard airbags which comes integral at the driver side with steering wheel and at passenger side in the instrument panel.

12- It comes with seat belts and a feature called LATCH.

 13- Air conditioning system uses refrigerant which is free from CFC and the exhaust of this system is located in instrument panel.

14- This car is also equipped with windshield antenna and bumpers at the rear and front which are contrasting in nature.

15- The console of this car is centered with the armrest and includes storage for cassette and cup holder.

16- It has also got an electric defroster at the rear window. It comes with a power door lock with time delay dynamics.

17- This car also features AM/FM which comes with a graphic equalizer, 7 speakers and 6-disc changer.

18- The seats are leather trimmed and have a manual 6-way height adjuster at the driver side.

19- This car also has a tilt-steering wheel with tachometer installed.

SAFETY FEATURES:

The safety rating for this car is not available. What we find is that, this car though is pricey and one will think it has got anti-lock disc brakes but unfortunately it doesn’t has one. As the speed increases shaking also increase. This shaking is constant at low speed. When safety is considered, this car will be at the last position. There are dual airbags at the front but not for the side. Also the passenger side bag can be disabled. The major safety feature which it includes is 3-point belt restraints and the dual bags in LH sedan. No crash test has yet been conducted for this car.

UNDER THE HOOD:

The power developed was 253Hp and used a multi-point fuel injection system. This car is a rear wheel drive and comes with automatic transmission system.

The interior of this car has modern features with look of 1950s. This car is equipped with leather seats. It also has cruise control to provide comfort.

The Prowler has a hot rod appeal. It has got a long and slim hood and dual bumpers extends out from it. It comes with various different colors.

WHAT WE LIKE:

1-    This car look of all time. You will really love it for its look.

2-    It is finely finished and some of the finishing is done by hand.

3-    The amenity it is equipped with is descent and even gives a sound system.

WHAT WE DON’T LIKE:

1-    It has got a rough ride and the body keeps on shaking at high speed.

2-    The interior is a mix up of retro look and modern look and this makes a bad impact.

3-    It has no anti-lock disc brakes and traction system which makes it even worse. Because at such high price we expect this safety feature.

4-    Entry and exit in the car is difficult.

5-    It does not include an option for V8 and does not include manual transmission system.

6-    Price is high and fuel economy is low.
