INTRODUCTION: What’s new for 2014?

Famous with rally fans, video game connoisseur and driving fanatics all over the world and to abide by homologation rules, the Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution is a serious performance sedan which is fast, fun and raw. The Lancer Evolution rapidly became a victorious rally cars. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, also identified as the Evo car, and it is a highly efficient sports car created by Mitsubishi Motors. The Lancer name evokes many different images straight away. For some, it conjures memories of the first generation cars, launched in 1973, which fought with the best on that time famous rally cars and came out to be the conquerors. Others will remember the second-generation models - the original Mitsubishi. With the production starting in 1992, this car presently has 10 versions. The title to each car is given by a roman number. It was manufactured only for the Japanese market but later it was offered throughout United Kingdom and various European markets. Casted in the fierce heat of World Rally Competition, the Lancer Evolution is honed by years of continuous development and hence is not only one of the supreme rally cars of all time, but it is also a desirable high-performance road car, too. In late March 2014, Mitsubishi spokeswoman Namie Koketsu had issued a press release which states that “Mitsubishi will explore the probabilities of high-performance models that will incorporate electric vehicle technology.” The next generation of Mitsubishi Evo will be notably smaller than the last version according to company president Osamu Masuko. It is said that the next Evo car would feature electric power from a hybrid drivetrain which will maintain performance of 0-62 mph time under 5 seconds while cutting CO2 emissions. Mitsubishi claims that the more "green" version of the Evo car will be even better in the performance and operation category. 

MODELS & FEATURES

There are ten models of the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO.

 The designation of each model is a Roman numeral in common as follows:

Evolution I:

It has a 2.0 L turbocharged DOHC engine and AWD drive train. It is sold in GSR and RS models. The RS had a stripped-down version, and it had steel wheels to weigh just about 70 kg (154 lb) fewer than the 1,238 kg (2,729 lb) GSR, set for racing or tuning. The GSR came with all of the amenities of a classic street car, which included a digital screen climate control system. Topmost speed was 228 km/hour (142 mph). GSR version of the Evolution I was the only EvoLancer which was released with a thick LSD rear differential. Evolution II:

The Evolution II had upgraded in December 1993. This Evolution two has a 50 l (13.2 US gal; 11.0 imp gal) fuel tank. Power productivity was increased to 256 PS (188 kW; 252 hp) .The transmission was 5 speed manual. Dimensions: Wheelbase: 2,510 mm (98.8 in), Length: 4,310 mm (169.7 in), Width: 1,695 mm (66.7 in)

Evolution III:

February 1995 marked the entry of the Evolution 3. latest side skirts, rear bumper moldings and a bigger rear spoiler were added only to decrease lift. Dimensions: Wheelbase: 2,510 mm (98.8 in), Length: 4,310 mm (169.7 in), Width: 1,695 mm (66.7 in), Height: 1,420 mm (55.9 in), Curb weight: 1,190–1,260 kg (2,624–2,778 lb).

Evolution IV: 

February 1996 marked the entry of the Evolution 3. Here too there were two versions available;The RS and GSR. Dimensions: Wheel base: 2,510 mm (98.8 in), Length: 4,330 mm (170.5 in), Width: 1,690 mm (66.5 in), Height: 1,415 mm (55.7 in), Curb Weight: 1,260–1,350 kg (2,778–2,976 lb). 

Evolution V: 

Many aspects were changed with respect to interior, body kit, track, brake, turbocharger and engine. Torque was increased to 3000 rpm. 

Evolution VI: 

The Evolution VI's changes mainly focused on engine and cooling durabilities. This vehicle is also at times referred to as an Evolution 6½, Evolution 6.5, or TME for short. The Evo VI came in either red (Tommi Mäkinen Edition only), white, blue, black or silver.

Evolution VII:

The introduction of the Evolution VII was marked in 2001. The transmission was 5 speed manual and automatic. It was an automatic drivetrain was included within the model lineup—the GT-A.  

Evolution VIII:

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII was started in 2003. It had 5-speed manual

6-speed manual transmission. It was also the first Evolution to be sold in the United States of America. 

Evolution IX:

Mitsubishi had introduced the Lancer Evolution IX in Japan on March 3, 2005. It had variations in acceleration, handling and top speed. It is stripped of all the creature comforts, and other upgrades.  

Evolution X: 

The production was started in 2007. It was a conception version of the next-gen Evolution at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show named the Concept-X. It was designed at company's European design centre. It has 6-speed twin-clutch transmission and 5-speed manual transmission. 

OPTIONS & PACKAGES

The MR's Touring package tacks on even more human being comforts, with a sunroof and leather package, rain-sensing wipers, leather seats, heated front chairs and extra sound insulation, direction-finding system package, view and sound package, outside package, LED illumination package, inside package, chrome side mirrors covers , wheel locks and fluted lugs, rear park assist sensors, side wind deflectors, and wheel locks. 

UNDER THE HOOD

Trim levels are divided in to two part- MR and GSR. GSR is intended to attract traditional driving enthusiasts, as it offers more aggressive suspension settings and a slick five-speed manual transmission and if we are talk about MR features they are marginally softer suspension with automated twin clutch manual transmission also it is operated via paddle shifters and functions as a traditional automatic mode when not in manual mode. 

It is a torque-vectoring technology which allows power to be split between the rear wheel which creates impressively neutral handling on the curvy roads. 

FUEL ECONOMY

It's worth noting that the Evolution is rated at 17/23 city/highway mpg with the stick and 17/22 with the dual-clutch 'box. The sole obtainable powerplant is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 291 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through an advanced all-wheel-drive system. It has the default power split 50:50 front/rear.

SAFETY RATINGS & TECHNOLOGY

All the Evolution models come standard with front side, dual front and full-length side curtain airbags. It also has the addition of a driver's knee airbag, stability control systems, traction along with a tire-pressure monitoring system.

CONCLUSION

Nowadays Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, officially recognized as the Lancer Evolution X and it offers a stage of performance characteristically desirable in sports cars and sports sedans. Only a small number of cars, inside and exterior of its class, can give similar engine power, exactness handling and driving strength as compared to the Lancer Evo.
