The mercury Mountaineer provides a good space for the medium sized families, a very decent handling of the vehicle and the good ride quality. These qualities are quite constant through the past two generations. Though this model is mechanically identical to that of the ford explorer and shared its frame work as well. The mercury Mountaineer made its attempt in order to differentiate with that of the other models by providing some more additional features.

The mercury mountaineer  premier  comes  with a standard  chrome wheels of 18 inch , the rear parking sensors, aluminum trimmed exterior mirrors  along with the puddle lamps , sunroof , aluminum roof walls , dual zone automatic climatic control , rear manual climatic controls , heated power front seats ,and the drivers memory functions.  Some of the optional features of the premier model include 20 inch chrome wheels, towing capabilities, power running boards, power capabilities for the third row seat, entertainment system. Navigation system along with the voice, audio and the video capabilities, integrated with the real time traffic system which includes timing of the movies, sports scores, local price of the gas, inbuilt 10GB hard drive for the music storage.

Powertrain and the performance

The 2010 mercury mountaineer comes with a standard engine capacity of 4 liter fuel capacity and V6 engine with a horsepower 210hp and a torque of 254 lb-ft. Whereas the premier model of mercury Mountaineer is equipped with an optional engine capacity of 4.6 liter fuel capacity , V8 engine  with a horse power of 292hp and a torque of 300lb-ft.  Five speed automatic transmissions are standard for the V6 engine whereas the V8 engines are provided with the six speed automatic transmission. Both the rear wheel drive and the all the wheel drive is provided for the both the engines.

When properly equipped, the mercury mountaineer with the rear wheel drive along with the V8 engine is provided with the towing capacity 7,220 pounds.

Safety features

The standard safety features of this model includes parking sensors , stability control , antilock disk brakes, provision for the air bags that includes both side airbags and the curtain air bags   for the first and the second row seats but this provision is not provided  for the third row seats.

The mountaineer model has progressed well in the crash tests .It earns a total of five stars in the crash tests performed by the government. It has earned quite good ratings in the offset set crashing test which is conducted through the Insurance institute for the highway safety.

Interior design and the special features

The mercury mountaineer’s two toned styling and is quite easy as far as the functionality is considered. It provides seating capabilities for nearly 6-7 passengers. It is provided  with optional voice activation system  and the navigation system based on the hard drive , both are quite effective  and latest .But still you can have look at  some low class materials here and there .

Two adults can be easily occupied in the third row seats for short trips where as the children can be easily placed at the back side. To a slight extent, the third row seat decreases the option for cargo space.

Conclusion

With the four wheel independent suspensions and results in good drive and handling capacity of the vehicle as far as the traditional SUV is considered. With the good sound installation system, it provides the mountaineer a good highway ride and the V8 engine is comparably smooth and powerful.
