Land Rover Discovery Series II

INTRODUCTION:

Land Rover, a British car manufacturer, introduced the Land Rover Discovery which is a midsized SUV. Land Rover discovery had four generations.

The Discovery series II started its production in the year1998 and in the US, in 1999. Discovery series II had been promoted by the Land Rover claiming that there had been modification in the 720 ‘differences’. There were modification in the interior and exterior and re working had been done, but still it was somewhat similar to the Discovery Series I. This car is well reputed and respected among the people who love 4 wheel drive and also the off road ability. The Discovery series II was given a sharp and tough look. Discovery series II production was discontinued in the year 2004.

WHAT’S NEW IN 2014 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES II?

Since the production line up of the Land Rover Discovery Series II was discontinued in the year 2004 and hence there are no recent updates on this model. But for 2015, there is new model which is named Land Rover Discovery Sport.

The price of Land Rover Discovery Series II ranges in between $29,685 to $36,750. This value varies according to the trim and package you choose.

MODELS AND FEATURES:

In the 2001 version of the Land Rover Discovery Series II, there were three trim levels offered. The three levels being SD, SE and LE each having their own unique characteristics. Trim level LE sits at the top of all the levels.

This is the vehicle that could climb the mountains and still drivers can enjoy a comfortable ride on leather seats and interior with wood trim. In 2002 only two models came. They were named SD and SE.

The only difference that was seen in these trim levels was in the interiors. Both the models SD and SE were equipped with 4 liter V-8 engine and also with an automatic transmission. An optional feature of third row seating was included so as to allow seating of seven adults. Other noteworthy upgrades in the feature were revamped sound system of Harmon Kardon and alloy wheels. It also had an active enhancement system for cornering which was found only in the SE model.

For the feature, this car offered a lot. The Discovery Series II provides its consumers with Defender like performance and the luxuries similar to that provided in range Rover. This was the car for the person requiring power and stability.

Even though this generation of discovery was available for three years, but the trim level of this generation saw a great advancement and created a milestone. The base level of Discovery Series II was a 4 wheel drive with a 4 liter V-8 engine and five doors. It also had high seating which gave each passenger the view to enjoy. Other trim models SD, SE and LE saw the improvement in interior and exterior. This car basically was for off-road experience but it also provides luxuries that really increased its worth.

Other features include passenger seat at the front which was 4-way powered. Adjustable and manual lumbar support was provided at the front passenger seat. Driver seat was height adjustable and was 8-way powered. Split folding was provided at the rear seat. Also center armrest was provided at the rear with storage. Power mirrors, heated mirrors and power windows were also added in the features of this car. Power door locks were provided which were remote keyless. The instrument it includes was clock, compass, tachometer and external temperature display. This car provided a cruise control which made the ride really comfortable. Steering wheels were tilt adjustable. This car also had dual zone climatic control and AM/FM stereo.

UNDER THE HOOD:

The Land Rover Discovery Series II used a 4.0 liter V-8 engine under its hood. The transmission system it used was a 4 speed automatic. It also used a 5 speed manual transmission for maneuverability. This generated a power and stability and enhanced its performance.

FUEL ECONOMY:

The car uses a 4.0 liter V-8 engine which generates a power like never before and this enhances the performance and stability of the car. The fuel economy of the Land Rover discovery Series II is 13 miles per gallon in the city and 17 miles per gallon on the highways. The power generated was 185hp and a torque of 340/2600 Nm was generated. It includes a multi point fuel injection system and also uses 8 cylinders.

SAFETY FEATURES:

The Land Rover Discovery Series II is one of a kind. The safety feature it provides is admirable and is of the right kind when safety of the family is concerned. The safety features it includes is antilock disc brakes on all 4 wheels to provide it the stability and keep it from skidding. It also provides upper belt at front which is adjustable and is equipped with integrated safety belts. Traction control system is also provided so as to enhance the safety of the car and the passenger too. At the rear center you will a belt for lap or shoulder. Rearview mirrors are auto dimming. Feature for energy management is also present. Head restraint for the rear seat and lower anchorage for child seat is also provided.

For the front impact it has got a 4 star for driver and passenger side. It has got the same rating for side impact too.

WHAT WE DON’T LIKE?

1-      Reliability is the major issue. It is unreliable car and has a breakdown and maintenance issue.

2-      Replacement of parts and to maintain them is quite expensive.
