Chevrolet Classic is a type of small and mid-size compact car produced by an American automobile manufacturer, General Motors, since 2002. It is a range of cars consisted of four different models: the second generation of Chevrolet Corsa, the fifth generation of Chevrolet Malibu, the sixth generation of Chevrolet Malibu, and the seventh generation of Chevrolet Malibu.
Models and Features
Chevrolet Classic is a brand name given to four different models of compact cars produced by General Motors, which were taken from the Corsa and Malibu models.
1. The second generation of Corsa, also called Corsa B, Buick Sail, Chevrolet Corsa, Holden Barina, Opel Vita, and Vauxhall Corsa, is a type of supermini car produced by General Motors in 1993-2000. It consists of several different body styles, namely 3-door hatchback, 5-door hatchback, 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon, and 2-door coupe utility/pickup body style. It was built based on the GM4200 platform. It has 96-97 inches wheelbase, with 146-158 inches length, 63 inches width, and 56 inches height.
2. The fifth generation of Chevrolet Malibu was produced in 1997-2003. It has 4-door sedan body style with transverse front-engine front-wheel drive layout. It was built based on the P-90 platform. It has 107 inches wheelbase, with 190 inches length, 69 inches width, and 56 inches height.
3. The sixth generation of Chevrolet Malibu, also known as Chevrolet Malibu Classic and Chevrolet Malibu Maxx, was produced in 2004-2007. It has two different body styles, namely 4-door sedan and 5-door station wagon, with transverse front-engine front-wheel drive layout. It was built based on the Epsilon platform. It has 106-112 inches wheelbase, with 187-188 inches length, 69 inches width, and 57-58 inches height.
4. The seventh generation of Chevrolet Malibu, also known as Chevrolet Malibu Classic, was produced in 2008-2012. It has 4-door sedan body style, with transverse front-engine front-wheel drive layout. It was built based on the Epsilon platform. It has 112 inches wheelbase, with 191 inches length, 70 inches width, and 57 inches height.

There are various variants of Chevrolet Classic available in the market for different regions.
For the Corsa B Chevrolet Classic version, the company released Opel Corsa for the European market, Vauxhall Corsa for the UK, Buick Sail for Chinese market, Chevrolet Corsa for Latin America, Opel Corsa for Chile, Chevrolet Corsa Classic for South America, Chevrolet Classic for Brazil, Holden Barina for Australia and New Zealand, Opel Corsa Lite and Classic for South African market, Opel Corsa Sail and Swing for Indian market, and Opel Vita for Japanese market. There are also more variants available that were derived from the Corsa B model, namely Chevrolet Sail for the Chinese market, Chevrolet Classic for Argentina and Brazil, Chevrolet Corsa Plus for Chile, Chevrolet Celta and Prisma for South America, Chevrolet Chevy for Mexico, and Suzuki Fun for Argentina.
For the Malibu Chevrolet Classic version, the company released Chevrolet Classic, Malibu Cruiser, Chevrolet Malibu LT, Chevrolet Malubu Maxx LS, Chevrolet Malibu SS, and Malibu Hybrid.

1. The Corsa B version of Chevrolet Classic features 13 different engine types, namely 1.0 liters X10XE I3 petrol engine, 1.2 liters 12NZ inline-four petrol engine, 1.2 liters C12NZ inline-four petrol engine, 1.2 liters X12SZ inline-four petrol engine, 1.2 liters X12XE inline-four petrol engine, 1.4 liters C14NZ inline-four petrol engine, 1.4 liters C14SE inline-four petrol engine, 1.4 liters X14SZ inline-four petrol engine, 1.4 liters X14XE inline-four petrol engine, 1.6 liters C16XE inline-four petrol engine, 1.6 liters X16XE inline-four petrol engine, 1.5 liters Isuzu inline-four diesel engine, and 1.7 liters Isuzu inline-four diesel engine. It uses 4-speed manual, 5-speed manual, and 4-speed automatic transmission system.
2. The fifth generation Malibu Chevrolet Classic features 4 different types of engine, namely 2.2 liters L61 inline-four gasoline engine, 2.4 liters LD9 inline-four gasoline engine, 3.1 liters L82 V6 gasoline engine, and 3.1 liters LG8 V6 gasoline engine. It uses 4-speed 4T40E transmission system.
3. The sixth generation Malibu Chevrolet Classic features 4 different types of engine, namely 2.2 liters L61 inline-four gasoline engine, 3.5 liters LX9 V6 gasoline engine, 3.5 liters LZ4 V6 gasoline engine, and 3.9 liters LZ9 V6 gasoline engine. It has two different types of transmission system, namely 4-speed 4T45E automatic transmission and 4-speed 4T65E automatic transmission.
4. The seventh generation Malibu Chevrolet Classic features 6 types of different engine, namely 2.4 liters LE5 inline-four gasoline engine, 2.4 liters LE9 inline-four gasoline E85 engine, 2.4 liters LAT inline-four hybrid gasoline engine, 3.5 liters LZ4 V6 gasoline engine, 3.5 liters LZE V6 gasoline E85 engine, and 3.6 liters LY7 V6 gasoline engine. It uses three types of transmission system, namely 4-speed 4T45 automatic transmission, 6-speed 6T40 automatic transmission, and 6-speed 6T70 automatic transmission.
Fuel Economy
1. Fuel economy for the Corsa B Chevrolet Classic is 7.5 liters per 100 kilometers for urban driving and 4.7 liters per 100 kilometers for extra urban driving.
2. Fuel economy for the fifth, sixth, and seventh generation Malibu Chevrolet Classic is 7.6-11 liters per 100 kilometers.
Safety Rating and Technology
For the Corsa Chevrolet Classic version, the safety rating is 2-star for adult occupant according to the Euro NCAP test. It features driver frontal airbag, front seatbelt pretensioners, and Britax forward-facing supercruiser.
For the Malibu Chevrolet Classic version, it has 5-star safety rating according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It features driver airbag, side-head airbag, side airbag, 4-wheel ABS, brake assist, daytime running lights, passenger airbag, rear-head airbag, rear body air bag, 4-wheel disc brakes, electronic stability control, and traction control.
Trivia
- General Motors company released the limited edition of fifth generation Chevrolet Malibu Classic called the Malibu Cruiser. It was built for the 2001 SEMA show. It was featured on the 2002 Hot Compact and Import magazine.
- The company also released the limited edition of sixth generation Chevrolet Malibu Classic called the Malibu SS edition. It uses special SS trim with 240 hp powertrain.
- Later, the company released the limited edition of seventh generation Chevrolet Malibu Classic, called the Malibu Hybrid, with better fuel economy than the standard version.
