Maruti is a Suzuki Brand Company located in India and Maruti Suzuki India Limited is based in Gurgaon, Haryana, India. The company produced a stupendous number of 1, 133, 695 vehicles between April 2011 and March 2012. Maruti Suzuki is co-owned by Suzuki Motor Corporation with a 54.2% shares and the rest is distributed among different financial and public institutions from India.

In the initial phase the company was started as an Indian Government undertaking named Maruti Udyog Limited, with Suzuki being the minor shareholder to produce low prices 4-wheeler cars to cater to the middle class Indian citizens. As the customer base enlarged the company also had changed ownership and expanded its production range. The models range from a humble Maruti 800 to lavishness Maruti Suzuki SUV Grand Vitara and premium sedan Maruti Suzuki Kizashi. The 800 was its launching product and it was followed with a Maruti Omni. In 1985 Maruti Gypsy was launched and was widely used in the Indian Army and in Indian police services thus becoming the main customers. Maruti Esteem came into being in 1993 after replacing the Maruti 1000 which remained assembly just a short period. The next in the compact car series Maruti started producing Maruti Zen after its launch in 1993. The model was followed by another compact model Maruti Wagon-R and Maruti Baleno which gave way to Suzuki SX4 later.

Maruti Alto was unveiled in 2000 and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara in 2003. These two cars were subsequently followed by Maruti Versa in 2004, Maruti Suzuki Swift in 2005, Maruti Suzuki SX4 model and Marui Zenb Estilo in the year 2007. As on February 2011 Maruti had attained the enviable figure of one million in the production of Alto and the feat was achieved in 7 years and 5 months after its launch in 2000. The second half of the million figure was accomplished just under 25 months. Following the footsteps of Maruti 800 and Maruti Omni, Alto also joined the stable to cross the one million mark. The Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha was presented in the New Delhi Auto Expo in January 2012 and is to commence production in late 2013.

Maruti Exports Ltd., is the exporting subsidiary of Maruti hence does not involve in the operations concerning the Indian domestic market. It mainly acts as the exporting arm of Maruti Suzuki for the international market and its associates. The first of its export consignments was in Hungary with a batch of 480 cars and after sending another consignment of 571 cars to the same destination Maruti achieved the benchmark of 3 million cars. The Indian government has been very keen in exports since the inception of Maruti in the country and has been encouraging the activity. A-Star is the 5th global model of Suzuki and was designed and manufactured in India. Maruti is the largest in terms of sales for the Suzuki branded vehicles and also the pioneer in research and development for Suzuki Motor Corporation outside Japan. Maruti Suzuki also introduced the Maruti Baleno Rally Car in 2005 at the Mysore Safari Rally.
