Well, appearances can be deceiving sometimes and that is what exactly the case with the 2015 Lexus RC350 F. Is one could be fooled with its Porsche 959 like slatted vents, bulging fender flares and an intimidating maw shaped like a spindle, but in actual case it is a smooth operator and the spiritual successor of the SC300, the first luxury coupe of Lexus.

You could be pardoned if you mistake the RC350 F for the RC F, the latest offering from Lexus. Both of these models wear the Gran Turismo video game attire on the exterior and gorgeous trappings inside. The test example we drove had Playa upholstery bestowed upon it and look as it has been snatched from a Maserati, which hugely compliments with the body paint in Ultrasonic Blue Mica, which drew much attention.

The car is designed to carry four passengers but the place you would like take is the form fitting and all-enveloping bucket seats in the front, which nicely vibe with the instrumentation inspired by LFA supercar, classic analog clock, infotainment system with touchpad, and aluminum pedals. Whatever you touch or interact with are padded, soft to touch and very user-friendly. It is whisper quiet when you are inside the Lexus.

The RC F and the F Sport are offered with a beefed up body structure that has been fortified by extra welds, structural adhesives and bracing compared to the related IS sedan and that makes them solid like a billet. The actual difference between them is discovered under the hood as the RC F has a spicy 5.0-liter V-8, producing 467-hp, and the F-Sport with the same 3.5 Liter V-6 that you find in the garden variety RC350. This is an engine your mother would take a liking to which is similar the velvet-like Camry six-cylinder.

The RC350 trim in either a port feed or direct injected version can produce 306 horses and it nicely suites the eight-speed automatic slick shifting transmission with paddle shifters. But if you are looking for thrill in the F Sport then you would be disappointed and the downfall is attributed to the huge mass the vehicle carries at 3894 pounds and it is heavier by 273 pounds to BMW 435I and 329 pounds  to the  Cadillac ATS 3.6 coupe.  The car trails the ATS by 0.3 seconds at 5.7 seconds for the 0-60mph mark and half a second to the 435i. It is also faster by a tenth to the Camry V-6 we earlier tested.

2015 Lexus RC350 F Sport is a two-door coupe with four passenger capacity, and it comes with the front-engine layout with the rear-wheel-drive train. It carries a base price of $47,700 and the test car we drove cost $55,315. The RC350 F has a wheelbase measuring 107.5-inches and back to front measures 184.4 inches of length.

From standing it takes 14.2 seconds to reach the quarter mile at 102mph and generates a governor limited the top speed of 146 mph. Braking stop from 70-0mph is 174-feet, and   it offers a grip of 0.88g on the skid pad. Fuel economy is rated at 19/28 mpg for city and highway, and we averaged 19 mpg during our test drive.
