Citroen C4 Cactus, it is tuned for less power

Philosophy goes that there is a fine line between the genius and madness and it continues that there is softer difference between strangeness and eccentricity.  Well the Citroen C4 Cactus is he automobile which is hanging somewhere in between these. However the C4 Cactus from Citroen is not going to visit the US ever.

But after watching the concept Cactus at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2013 we are ready to swim across the big waters to lay our hands on its wheels. Citroen is the maker who came up with automobiles such as the slow moving 2CV and the breathtakingly beautiful DS and SM. These two were definitely ahead of their time and only the sci-fi casting director chose them to star in their lazy fictions projecting them as futuristic car models.

Lately the company has been demoted to making vehicles such as PSA Peugeot, the economy brand of Citroen and cars in dull brown like the onion soup of the French. Every organism in the world is born without an aim out of weakness prolongs and meets death by chance. Look at the Cactus you would think it is cute. This may the compensation that Citroen has offered to its fans and the C4 Cactus is definitely not dull. This bubble wrapped vehicle is a compact crossover hatchback in SUV style. The boxy design and tall structure of the Cactus is within the agreed norms of the European taste and the wheel-arch extension made of plastic is ready to cleave down minimum ground clearance front-wheel-drive hatchback.

The doors have been offered with Air pump polyurethane and so are the bumpers and the tailgates. The capsules filled with air are done in contrasting colors over the body and are softer to the touch slightly. This is a kind of immunity provided for the Cactus in case of it pumping in to things while parking. You will come to understand this phenomenon when you spend some time in France. In tight English parking lots we tried this and came to know that it is true.

Inside the cabin you see a mixture of mediocre and premium stuff. You see the familiar cheap plastic that the French automaker uses to minimize budget and they are contrasted with the hinges made in solid metal for the huge glove compartment. We said ‘huge’ because for some strange reasons the protective airbag is unleashed from the windshield and doors have leather pull straps. This Citroen has limited instrument controls and it is just the digital speed dial.  You also have a touch screen of high intrigue and you find no tachometer here.

A relatively small 1.6 Liter turbo diesel engine producing 98hp is the power source for the tested model and the vehicle is powered by a range of gasoline engines too. This engine like other European variants is tuned for big fuel economy and also reduced power range. After it is ignited, the Cactus commands quite a good speed. The French vehicle is known for their power assistance, but steering in the Cactus is unexpectedly heavy and so are the regular manual five-speed and the clutch pedal. It has severe jolt angles and grip levels are subtle and overall the ride quality can be termed as disappointing.
